Curriculum Intent

At St Christopher’s Primary School, we embrace current and emerging technologies to facilitate the learning experience of the whole school community.

We aim for our children to be confident, competent and discerning users and creators of digital technology which will prepare them for participation in a rapidly changing world.

Implementation

The topics for each year group are available on the curriculum page of the school website. These have been specifically chosen so that children’s knowledge and skills are progressing through the year groups, ensuring full coverage of the national curriculum.

For example, in year 1 children will be able to give a sequence of instructions to complete a simple task – e.g. programming a Beebot. By year 6, children will be using a range of coding programs to create a user-controlled sprite, automated sprites and peripheral characters with different behaviours.

As an example of skills progression, in year 1 the children will develop familiarity with the keyboard, using spacebar, backspace, shift and enter to provide text on screen that is clear and error free. In year 3 children can organise and present information for a specific audience. By year 6 the children will be able to select appropriate software for the task and audience and plan the structure and layout of a presentation.

In our profiles you will see:
